it's been a long weekend.....

Thursday evening before lunch our county, among surrounding counties, started closing school for Friday due to the cold temps that we were expecting. I think the main factor that caused the closure in our county was that so many kids have to stand outside in the cold waiting for the buses to come by. Another major factor in the decision to close the schools was not wanting a repeat day like we had last year. Last year everyone went to bed expecting ice over night but when we woke the it was rain only and the temps hadn't dropped but within an hour which just happened to be the time everyone was getting their children to school the temps plumeted and it started icing. I remember that morning going out to start the van to let it warm up, there was just cold rain then about ten minutes later as I was taking the kids to school it started icing hard and heavy. Since children were either at school or on their way the county decided not to cancel school for the day because they thought that the temps would warm up in an hour or so but contrary to what they thought, the temp didn't warm up...it continued to drop a few more degrees through out the day and by 1 that afternoon the roadways were an icy mess. Needless to say there were a lot of weather related traffic accidents/problems that day and the county had a bigger mess of ticked off parents to deal with. All other counties closed schools when the ice started but ours went against the grain and they paid for it. Our county is always the last to announce a closure anyway unless it is actually snowing/icing/flooding and problems are starting, that is the only way they will close schools before the 11 o'clock news comes on.

With the extremely cold temps that we had over the last few days there were bound to be some problems arise, we woke on both Friday and Saturday morning to frozen water, actually the water had not only frozen but also burst during the night. Shawn is no plumber but he knows enough to repair small problems and I felt so bad for him because he worked so long repairing the burst pipe on Friday then even with precautions and extra steps the pipe done the exact same thing during the wee hours of the morning on Saturday. Finally around 4 PM Saturday afternoon we had water and since then there have been no problems. I will tell you that you don't know how much you use water until you have none, I am thankful that we have other places close to us to shower because there is no way I am going an entire day without a shower....ewwwww.

I will try to make my way 'round to all of your blogs some time today to catch up.

Hope you all have a good day and stay warm!
